Who
are we?
The Safari Company was formed in 1966 by well-known wildlife photographer Alan Root and anthropologist Richard Leakey. Pressure of work in their own fields forced them to resign and in 1974 East African Wildlife Safaris took over with Jock Anderson continuing as Managing Director. Today the company is proud of our reputation for personal attention and privacy, neither of which are ingredients of the more commercial package holiday
Our Safari Our Safaris are tailor made for those with a spirit of adventure and a desire for privacy throughout, and for those who wish to experience a taste of the excitement and romance of a traditional safari under canvas, without having to compromise on life's little luxuries - including our new en-suite tents with a new development of a flush toilet! There is no other way to experience the closeness of the African Bush, sitting by the camp fire in the velvety African night, you will hear the calls of crickets and nightjars, the barking of zebra and the unforgettable sounds of lion. In every way you will experience the Africa that the purely lodge bound visitors will never know, enjoying the comfort and personal service that only a private camp can provide. The Company only operates personalized safaris and we customize itineraries to suit your own interests and time available for the Safari, using Game Lodges, permanent tented camps and the most rewarding, traditional mobile safaris under canvas. There is a distinct advantage travelling in our 4-wheel drive custom built vehicles. They have been designed to allow for plenty of leg room between the well positioned and comfortable seats. There are 2 roof hatches, and large side windows allowing for excellent visibility for game viewing and photography. Our vehicles are equipped with VHF radios, wildlife reference books and extra seat pockets for storing camera equipment and personal items. Perhaps more importantly, these 4-wheel drive vehicles can go almost anywhere in most weather conditions, giving access to the more remote areas of the parks and reserves, not usually frequented by the 2 wheel drive vehicles. Each vehicle allows for 4 -5 people comfortably, so when planning a group, you should bear this in mind and allow for either 4 ,5, 8, or 10 people. Two vehicles offer a well balanced safari group. Whilst at one of our luxury mobile camps, your accommodation will be in large insect-proof tents with adjoining verandahs, equipped with large, sprung beds with sheets and blankets. Each tent has its own shower and a first ever, our new creation of a mobile flush toilet. Fresh food is prepared for each meal, by our experienced African Safari cooks. You can expect anything from vegetarian to fillet steak and freshly baked bread to hot chocolate soufflé. There is a full bar in the dining tent, with cold drinks and a constant supply of ice. The day to day camp chores are seen to by the other staff in camp who accompany us throughout our safari. While the private camp is moving from one game area to another, you will stay in an exclusive private ranch/home, situated in a Wildlife Conservancy/Park on the way to the next wildlife location where the camp is being set up again ready for your arrival. Rates vary depending on the itinerary requested and the number of people in the group. A four person safari rate varies between $580 and $780 each per day. This excludes park fees, any internal flights, any extras incured outside of our private camp and camp staff gratuities. Professional guides lead the up-market mobile safaris under canvas. The lower budget safaris are led by our experienced African driver/guides, unless otherwise requested, using lodges and permanent camps. These rates vary between $300 to $500 per person per day.
Our safaris are private to the person booking and therefore we are unable to include others into a private group unless both parties are agreeable. EAWS does not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to any baggage. EAWS reserves the right to alter any route, itinerary as a result of unforeseen circumstances, such as weather conditions. A travel Insurance should be considered by a traveler. Our Reputation East African Wildlife Safaris
has thrived for over 40 years through word of mouth. It must be difficult
to decide who to contact for a safari so to make the decision easier, we
would suggest you contact some of our past clients for assurance and comments
on the very special nature of our safaris.
